Sahara Naini has been playing both classical piano and viola for more than 12 years. Having studied ethnomusicology at the University of Washington, she has a deep appreciation for ways of understanding music that expand beyond the western classical realm. She has studied and performed with internationally known musicians who specialize in various cultural music genres, including Carnatic Indian music, Spanish Folk and Sephardic music, Indonesian Gamelan, and Puerto Rican Bomba. Sahara encourages students to appreciate all genres of music, especially those that are not universally taught. She enjoys learning and broadening her musical perspective, and invites students to play music that is culturally meaningful to them.
